Now that you’re here you’ll find a complete range of cloud computing infrastructure solutions and business infrastructure solutions designed to keep your data safe and on the move quickly.
Backbone Connect operate multiple London colocation data centres, each selected for its location and its ability to meet our strict service levels and therefore our commitments to our customers. There are many reasons why you may want to consider London Colocation within London data centres in the London area – here are just a couple:
London colocation is limited, new data centres come on line regularly but there is always a high demand because companies need to access their equipment easily – even though most configuration and administration tasks can be done remotely these days via online remote access tools, physical access is still required when installing new equipment or replacing failed devices.
London is also one of the key landing points for many international network links which ultimately carry much of the UK’s international bound internet traffic. Therefore if your colocation presence needs direct access to the internet and if latency is an issue then hosting your equipment in a London Colocation Data Centre will ensure you reach the internet in the fewest possible number of hops (providing you choose a high quality internet provider – such as us for example).
With the advent of blade technology and ever increasing processing power available, the demand for higher power density colocation racks among London data centres is also on the increase. Many legacy London Colocation data centres now struggle to keep pace with this increased demand because they weren’t designed to provide such power for a number of reasons normally around the power coming into the building – total supply capacity, the ability for backup systems (generators and UPS systems) to provide sufficient power, or the ability to cool the data centre. Some legacy London colocation data centres simply cannot provide more than 16 or even less amps per rack footprint.
Backbone Connect operate a number of higher power density suites within our London Colocation data centres each capable of supplying more than 16 amps per rack footprint, and some capable of supplying 64 amps to a single rack.
Of course, as a premium London Colocation operator, we can be even more flexible where customers require private suite areas because we can create a controlled environment which specifically meets the demands of the customer including installing additional cooling systems at London data centres.
Another advantage of the London Colocation Data centre market is the high levels of interconnectivity between all the facilities and the prolific on-net status for many well-known carriers (both internet carriers and WAN providers). There are a large number of “metro-rings” connecting the majority of London colocation facilities which means multiple options are available no matter what the connectivity requirement, helping to drive down cost maintain competition. It’s possible to get high capacity bandwidth installed between data centres quickly, sometimes within a matter of days, and to speeds of 10Gbps+ or even dark fibre capacity.
Once you establish your London colocation data centre you’ll be looking at connecting to it, either across the public internet or directly via WAN connections – often it’s a mixture of the two. As a result it’s important to understand which carriers are on net. London Colocation Data Centres offer a wealth of choice in this area.
All of our London Colocation Data Centres are on-net for multiple WAN carriers including Openreach, Virgin Media Business and Colt plus many more. This means that when you need to install a new WAN connection between our London Colocation Data Centres you have options to choose a carrier which can provision it quickly and easily and at the best price.
All Backbone Connect London Colocation Data Centres are carrier neutral which means you are free to have internet access provided by your preferred ISP. We can help here too; we operate a high capacity internet access core infrastructure which is deployed across all or our London Colocation data centres. We use multiple upstream providers including Level3 and NTT (both widely considered to be the two leading network operators) to ensure resilience. We can provide a range of internet access solutions including direct ip ports, multi-homed access and partial routes.
All of our London Colocation data centres operate strict security systems including monitored CCTV, onsite security and access control. But where required we can also supply an additional layer of security at any of our London Colocation data centre by providing a private suite area which is provided for the exclusive use of one customer. Entry to private suites is closely controlled and monitored.
Suites and caged areas can be built to exact specifications of the end customer, and can be built to accommodate anything from 3 or 4 racks to 100 or more.
We can also supply individual racks or multiple contiguous racks in any of our London Colocation data centres within our shared data hall areas. Access to the areas and individual racks is strictly controlled and monitored, so this provides cost effective colocation in London. We also operate higher density areas for those requiring additional power.
Racks in suited areas and shared data halls are either 47u or 42u high depending on the individual facility – we always provide the racks to ensure a uniform layout and optimum/predictable cooling.
Once your colocation systems are installed and running often direct access to the data centre is required only for either planned maintenance or in an emergency, sometimes it’s only to carry out a simple hard reboot which can make the trip to the facility frustrating. For this reason, Backbone Connect offer a range of remote and intelligent remote hands services at all our London Colocation data centres. Remote Hands Services are available to carry out simple tasks such as hard reboots, re-patching etc and intelligent remote hands services can cater for everything from configuration changes to full rack and stack services.
Remote hands sessions can be provided against a service level agreement to ensure responses are quick and meet the individual needs of the customer. Most of our London Colocation data centres have on site remote hands engineers 24 x 7 and are just a phone call away, which can prove useful at 3am!
Migrating to a new London Colocation data centre requires a significant amount of planning and resources in execution. Over the years we have helped countless customers move into one of our London Colocation Data Centres in many capacities including project management and physical migration. Our team of project managers are Prince2 trained and have a detailed understanding of the work involved in a successful migration.
Each migration from and to a London colocation data centre is assigned a dedicated Project Manager who is will work closely with the customers internal project team and the engineering resource and third parties (such as carriers, hardware suppliers etc) to co-ordinate the events involved parties throughout the migration to another London Colocation data centre.
