The role – what we’re looking for

We are expanding due to our success and we are looking for a Sales Manager to lead the account management team (Customer Success) who will be actively engaged in managing the process of developing relationships with further developing customer relationships and generating sales from our customer base.

The Customer Success Team at Backbone Connect is a department committed to maintaining and improving customer happiness, ensuring excellent levels of service from Backbone Connect to our customers, making all customers aware of our full portfolio of services, and constantly promoting the business externally while championing the customer internally.

As Sales Manager for this team you will be responsible for managing this team, mentoring and ensuring newly generated sales from our current customer base, and building/nurturing customer relationships. It will involve internal stakeholder management, lots of communication between departments and supplier management.


The role – who we’re looking for

This role will require a strong, confident leader and communicator who is able to gain trust from the team and customers alike. Previous Team Management or Senior Account management experience is a must, within the IT industry, specifically data centre services, colocation and infrastructure, telephony, connectivity and cloud services. The candidate will have plenty of experience in managing customers by phone, email and regular 1-1 meetings with the purpose of creating opportunities for revenue generation, ensuring customer happiness, and problem resolution.

Working in this role will involve balancing the team’s monthly revenue target with inbound customer requests. The ideal candidate will have strong organisation skills, a high attention to detail and excellent time and priority management abilities. They will be polished and able to deliver corporate presentations and messaging in meetings and be able to report on team status to the leadership team consistently. Negotiation skills will also be key, driving the team’s knowledge whether they be internally to meet delivery deadlines, or with suppliers to get the best pricing or technical solution for the customer or the business.


Ideal skill-set and experience:

  • 8+ yrs in IT/Telco fields as Sales Manager, ideally with an experience in selling MPLS, VPLS, DIA, managed services, telecommunications, data centre or cloud services.
  • Team leading and coaching skills, preferably in an IT Services/Solutions environment.
  • Excellent written, communication and presentation skills
  • A positive, dynamic and can do attitude


Core tasks:

  • Generate team sales to target
  • Managing the team sales cycle from initial contact to closing business with and keeping close to current customer
  • Working with CEO to ensure that the Customer Success road-map matches customer success business sales strategies and ensuring that all relevant training is covered and that team members have a career path plan in place.
  • Completing and managing Backbone Connect Customer Success Training Plan
  • Working with Service Delivery to gain a full understanding of current customer projects and dealing with areas of escalation.
  • Reporting to the business – to include accurate sales forecasting
