The role – what we’re looking for

We are looking to recruit a Project Manager with a background in preferably the Telco/IT industry with knowledge of end to end connectivity solutions and services, including networking, datacentres, and cloud solutions reporting to the Backbone Connect Service Delivery Manager.

You will be part of a highly customer focused team, interacting and liaising constantly with our engineers, sales team and service desk to deliver the full lifecycle of our connectivity solution to a number of customers.

This is a key role in the organization, with an expectation that the successful candidate has the capability to lead by example in servicing and managing all aspects of the project, including scoping, roll-out, resourcing customer liaison and reporting externally and internally on their projects.


The person we’re looking for will have experience in

  • Co-ordinating deliveries to customers across all stages of a customer-specific project life cycle
  • Working on multiple projects, at different stages that vary in size and scale
  • Building and maintaining trusting customer relationships
  • Managing and delivering to a clear plan
  • Managing the effective & profitable delivery of the project by facilitating configuration, architecting and engineering and creative resourcing (with assistance from Technical Teams) to budget

We are looking for an experienced Project Manager with the experience to grow and lead our company in Project Management best practice as we undergo rapid growth. A can-do, lead from the front attitude with the ability to shine under pressure and the want to bring out the best in those around them. Someone who takes pride in what they do and understands that the Project Management is a window in which customers view the whole of Backbone Connect.

Today, we are ensuring an industry best practice in Project Management and Service Desk. Tomorrow, we are building an award-winning PMO and support function. This is your opportunity to be a part of that change.


Ideal skill-set and experience:

  • Customer relationship management is key
  • An eye for process is important, as this role will play a key part in defining our PM function today and in the future
  • Knowledge of third party relationship, integrations and liaison is an advantage
  • IT Consultancy/Services PM background helpful but not essential


Core tasks:

  • Ensuring quality delivery of projects to timescale, budget and agreed scope
  • Ensuring quality delivery of projects to timescale, budget and agreed scope
  • Responsible for managing project challenges in a resilient, proactive and confident manner
  • Defining, managing and delivering to detailed project plans
  • Owning the project budget and delivering projects profitably
  • Managing timely, open and clear communications externally via status reports and weekly meetings
  • Delivery of individual and project internal targets in line with internal Backbone goals
  • Effective internal communications via project stand-ups, team meetings to ensure company wide visibility of status, plan and actions
  • Co-ordinating resources from the Service Desk, Engineering, Support and sales teams in addition to customer side resources
  • Perform change management through project as appropriate to changing requirements
  • Ensure delivered solution is managed through quality gateways in line with Backbone ‘TaskRay’ project delivery methodology
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of Backbone Connect services and solutions and use this knowledge to challenge and refine customer projects
  • Share knowledge within the team to continually improve working practices and improving productivity and profitability of other projects.
