The role – what we’re looking for

At Backbone Connect we have built a business around a successful, focused and fun sales team. We believe that to be successful in the IT industry, you have to be smart, disruptive and agile, and our team is just that. We are expanding due to our success and we have a new Trainee Business Development Team (Futures Academy) actively engaged in approaching our industry verticals, developing new and exciting customer relationships and generating sales from new business prospects. We are committed to offering our Academy Sales Team the focus and support to enable them target and start conversations with new prospects. Our Sales Academy Programme develops sales people to sell Cloud computing, voice, data and connectivity solutions.

As Academy Manager for this team you will be responsible for managing this team, mentoring and ensuring newly generated sales from new business prospects, rolling out the Academy programme as well as having your own team sales targets. The role requires the skills to manage your team in generating their own sales pipeline from lead generation through to customer meeting confirmation. You’ll have the added benefit of powerful sales tools – data-driven marketing campaigns, a sophisticated CRM and powerful lead generation software – to assist as you build a pipeline of consistent and regular monthly team and individual revenue.

This team are part of a Graduate/Apprentice/Junior training programme for future careers in Sales, they will have a natural aptitude for sales. Training around; sales playbook, objection handling, company presentation and Backbone Story, customer calling and follow-up, our services e.g. connectivity, is readily available and part of the Academy training programme for you to utilise when you are devising your strategy and road-map for the future.


Ideal skill-set and experience:

  • 3+ yrs in IT/Telco fields as Academy or equivalent Sales Training Manager– ideally with an interest in selling MPLS, VPLS, DIA, managed services, telecommunications, data centre or cloud services.
  • Team leading and coaching skills, preferably in an IT telesales/telemarketing environment.
  • Training programme development knowledge
  • Excellent written, communication and presentation skills
  • An interest in learning about Sales roles and winning new business
  • A positive, can do attitude


Core tasks:

  • Generate personal and team new business sales to target
  • Managing the team sales cycle from initial contact to meeting with customer
  • Working with and gaining support from active marketing department through paid search, advanced digital marketing campaigns and telemarketing
  • Working with Head of Sales and CEO to ensure that the Academy road-map matches future business sales strategies and ensuring that all relevant training is covered and that team members have a career path plan into the Sales teams after one year.
  • Completing and managing and Backbone Connect Academy Training Plan
  • Working with Marketing on Lead generation through follow-up to digital marketing campaigns, telemarketing, networking and referrals
  • Reporting to the business – to include accurate sales forecasting
