Internet Access for Businesses is now a crucial part of any most companies communications platforms. It’s become increasingly difficult to operate without a Business Internet Access, even for a few hours – just ask anyone who has suffered a dropped connection for any length of time. Communications technologies such as emails, web traffic, VPN sessions, VoIP, Video, thin client and so on will continue to converge, and now with the rapid adoption of cloud computing concepts throughout the business s
ector, Business Internet Access is now more critical than ever. When internet connectivity was used for web surfing and a few emails, businesses survived relatively well with temperamental Business Internet Access solutions like dial up connections – which were incredibly slow even at the best of times. But, nowadays businesses depend on their internet connection not just for web surfing (which has become critical in itself – think not just youtube and facebook but also procurement portals, online banking systems etc) , and emails – which have become critical to staff members throughout any business, but also businesses are increasingly adopting converged technology solutions such as VoIP and Video conferencing – both can save a business money and maximise staff productivity providing but both rely heavily on a business’s internet connectivity to function – not just in terms of simply being available but also the performance of the solution itself in terms of latency and QoS.
Another area where business change is driving demand for internet connectivity is the steady adoption of remote working – either from home offices or staff in the field. There are some clear cost savings to be made here including a reduction in lost working hours through travel – if a member of staff is enabled to work from home then even in the event of disruption of the travel network they are able to be productive. If a business enables some staff members to work from home this can drive down the requirement for office space – ultimately saving money on rent and business rates.
Remote workers in the field can also be more productive if they’re given the opportunity to connect to the company network while out on the field. Field sales staff can update the company CRM systems, prepare quotes and proposals, report forecasts etc all while out on the field, potentially reducing the amount of time they are required to spend in the office, and increasing the time spent in front of customers for example. Businesses continue to deploy Virtual Private Network (VPN) technology to meet the growing demand for secure wide area network connectivity solutions because they are cost effective, simply to deploy and straight forward to manage. VPN’s use the public internet to securely transport encrypted traffic between nodes on the network – as a result the underlying connection is critical to the reliability and performance of the VPN.
The good news is there are a wide range of Business Internet Access solutions available to meet all budgets and performance expectations. Backbone Connect are a business only Internet Service Provider – specialising in reliable, resilient internet connectivity for businesses.

We never have and never will supply internet access solutions to domestic users or consumers. We made this decision early on and it’s a policy that’s served us and our customers well. By focussing on Business Internet Access, we’re able to put all of our efforts into building internet access solutions which meet the demands of business users which tend to centre on reliability, performance and cost. Our Business Internet Access core network is uncongested and optimised for Business Internet Access traffic including VoIP, Video and data. We boast a wide range of solutions (from xDSL to high capacity fibre connections), we’ve ensured our network is fully IPv6 enabled so its future proof plus because we take our commitment to excellence seriously it’s resilient throughout.
Our Business Internet Access core network operates at no more than 70% capacity at all times, which means whenever we reach the 70% threshold we expand the core network. We do this to ensure that our customers never experience poor network performance, there’s always plenty of head room. As you would expect our 24hour Network Operations Centre (NOC) is tasked with monitoring the network from node to node 24 hours per day every day of the year. State of the art monitoring tools are employed to monitor the performance and utilisation of the network, which enables us to plan expansion rather than reactively deal with challenges. B y operating in this way, focusing on only Business Internet Access customers and the performance of our network we’re able to provide a first class service tailored to meet the demands of the business user.
The Backbone Connect core Business Internet Access network is optimised for the reliable transport of VoIP, Video and Data. Your business either already does or soon will be using converged technologies of one type or another. Businesses can save a significant amount of money and benefit from extra features by adopting converged technologies including Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), Video over IP and centralised applications/storage. Backbone Connect business solutions are capable of running a range of traffic management tools which is critical for time sensitive applications such as VoIP and Video – where poor latency would result in degraded call quality or a dropped call – both are frustrating and a sure way to annoy end users.
These traffic management tools work by identifying the time sensitive traffic and prioritising it against other traffic, so voice calls are given priority over emails for example. And because our core network is not congested with domestic users and never reaches a utilisation above 70% our customers are assured of minimal latency and optimal performance no matter what type of traffic. Cloud Optimised Cloud solutions are here to stay and with businesses able to realise significant savings in terms of costs and lost staff hours, plus benefits in terms of performance and scalability it’s not difficult to see why. However it’s important to consider the connectivity between your office and the cloud solution – as you move services and applications from your office into the cloud you’ll quickly start realising all the benefits providing your connectivity is up to the task.
Backbone Connect provide a range of dedicated cloud connections which create a point to point link between your office and users and the cloud platform – these connections provide dedicated bandwidth exclusively for the transportation of cloud traffic. However not all customers are the same and some businesses may be able to combine internet connection with a cloud connection via a high performance resilient connection. Backbone Connect fibre solutions are fully cloud optimised – which means they are designed for the transportation of Voice, Video, data and cloud traffic. They are capable of running traffic management tools to prioritise particular traffic types.

Because we focus on business connections, we’ve spent a lot of time and effort ensuring that the solutions we provide are as dependable as our customers expect. That means we offer 100% core network uptime, no matter what business solution is installed. And we don’t just mean we’ll give you some service credits if things go wrong (which of course we will) but more importantly we have taken technical steps to ensure the core network is ultra-resilient. It’s hosted across multiple data centres for example in redundant configuration throughout.
Ethernet Internet lines provide resilient Business Internet Access connectivity because of their scalability, reliability and security
Backbone Connect’s Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) connections are delivered (from exchange to our customers’ location) over bundled copper pairs rather than fibre, with options for synchronous bandwidth between 2Mbps to 10Mbps.

Backbone Connect offer two types of Broadband, standard ADSL which is delivered over a standard telephone line and cable broadband which uses fibre optic cable.
Our extensive network and colocation presence enables us to provide 3 options of IP transit (IPTransit) to many data centres throughout the UK.
We use multiple tier 1 upstream providers to haul our internet traffic (Level3, NTT and more). This adds an additional layer of resilience and ensures optimum performance around the clock.
All of our business internet solutions are fully cloud enabled – this means your business will already have access to the Backbone Connect range of Cloud services from the moment you are connected.
Our Business Internet Access Solution is a fully managed service. We constantly monitor and manage service from our demark at our customer’s office, to our core infrastructure and out to the public internet. A first class Service Level Agreement (SLA) is provided with all of our Managed business offerings. These are backed by service credits, with defined performance levels for service availability and restoration time. Follow-up fault and support phone calls are handled professionally, round the clock, by our dedicated technical support team.
Remote workers and/or multiple locations - as the office location changes, the ability to share information becomes very critical and even more difficult. Backbone Connect Business Ethernet - with symmetrical bandwidth up to 100 Mbps - delivers more bandwidth at a much lower cost than most other suppliers.
Ethernet First Mile (EFM) uses multiple copper pairs with the capacity to supply bandwidth up to 10Mbps equally well in both directions. It’s an ideal business internet solution if fibre services are above the means of your business.
Ensuring that your business can communicate and share data effectively is critical to the success and smooth operation of your business. We build network solutions which leverage cutting-edge technology to assure reliable, resilient and fast connectivity. Our next-generation infrastructure offers a broad product range and service levels you can be confident in.
RIPE (the independent body that administers IP address space) has no more to allocate. Most ISP’s have some IPv4 addressing space in stock so can continue to bring on new customers, but eventually this space will run out. IPv6 (which was developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force) will eventually replace IPv4.
IPv4 allows 32bits for an IP address and can therefore support 4,294,967,296 addresses, IPv6 uses 128-bit addresses so can support 340 undecillion addresses. That’s quite a few. Backbone Connect’s Business Internet Access solutions are fully IPv6 enabled.
